Conquering Fear and Anxiety in Daily LifeLet Your Feelings Out
Bottling up your emotions deep inside creates tension and stress. If you want to reduce the amount of anxiety in your life, you need to let those feelings out. First, pay attention to what you are feeling. This means paying attention not only to your mind but also to your body. If you are experiencing the physical symptoms of tension, such as body aches, headaches, fingernail biting, sweaty palms, and twitching, notice when these symptoms occur. Do you get headaches after a certain class, or does the idea of going to a party make you break out in a cold sweat? Bodily clues can be the key to discov ering the sources of stress in your life.
Recognize that your emotions are important. Do not dismiss them. If something is causing you anxiety, talk to someone about it. You can talk with a parent, teacher, guidance counselor, friend, or someone else you trust. If you are not ready to share your feelings with another person, try writing them down. Keep a journal and record your emotions in it. Writing is an excellent way to release stress and let your emotions out.
Finally, if you ever feel as though you just cannot handle your feelings, or that you have no one to talk to, you can call a crisis hotline. Specially trained counselors are always there to help you.
