Cerebral Palsy
What Specific Treatments Are AvailablePhysical Therapy
Physical therapy (PT) uses specific exercises to achieve two important goals: preventing a weakening of large muscles (such as those in the arms and legs) that often follows a lack of use, and avoiding “contracture” (when muscles become stiff and fixed in odd positions).
Physical therapists help people learn better ways to move and balance themselves. They may help people with CP learn to walk, use a wheelchair, stand by themselves, or go up and down stairs. Children can work on fun skills like running, throwing a ball, or riding a bike.
