B ecause of Tom, the camping trip was a night mare for everyone in the family. What should have been fun turned into shouting and crying and unhappiness. Tom is not an angry teen — Tom is the dad, and he has a learning disability.



When the family tried to put up the tent, the poles had to be laid out in the same order every time. The tent had to be folded exactly the same way when it was put away the next morning. Tom's insistent pushing that things be done his way — and his get ting angry when the family complained — ruined the fun.

A learning disability lasts for life. Although it is most often seen as a problem during the school years, the truth is that no one outgrows LD.
