CalebA New School

In sixth grade, Caleb entered middle school. A teacher there was concerned about his work. She had Caleb tested. His scores were low. Caleb was put in a class for students labled “slow learners.” He didn't want to be there. Other kids called him and his classmates mean names. But this time, he couldn't get out of attending the class.

In class, Caleb got special help. Sometimes he had the teacher's time all to himself. They worked on reading, writing, and math. Caleb tried. But the extra help still didn't erase his problems.

Caleb stayed in the special class through the eighth grade. He wanted to quit school and get a full-time job after that, but his parents wouldn't let him. They told him he had to keep trying.
