Drug Abuse and Addiction
Tolerance
If you continue taking drugs, your body soon develops a tolerance for them. Tolerance means that you need to use more and more of the drug to get the original effect. For example, at first, a couple of drinks may be all you need to feel relaxed. But you soon find that you need much more than that to get the same feeling of relaxation. Just like with alcohol, using barbiturates will produce this same tolerance effect. The longer you use a drug, the more you need to increase the amount you take in order to feel any effect.
