When Depression Becomes SevereWarning Signs Of Suicide
How can you tell if someone is truly planning to commit suicide? You can't always be sure. That's why any talk of suicide should be taken seriously. A comment like “The world would be better off without me” can be a warning sign. The most dangerous thing a person can do is ignore the warning or assume that his or her loved one isn't serious. Here are some warning signs to watch for in a depressed person:
- Constant talk of death or dying
- Withdrawal from friends and family
- Giving away prized possessions
- Direct or indirect threats of suicide (“After I'm gone…”)
- Presence of “suicide tools,” such as guns, rope, pills, etc.
- Very sudden happy mood or improvement in a depressed person's condition
