Because most hallucinogens are not addicting or fatal, many young experimenters assume they are safe. Teenagers are taught the health risks of alcohol, cocaine, methamphetamines, and other dangerous substances. Hallucinogens seem gentle by comparison.
However, they can cause a user to become dependent on them. Their effects on the mind are unpredictable and sometimes very unpleasant. And they can be dangerous.
