The more that you communicate with people over the Internet, the more careful you have to be. Your parents have probably told you never to get into a car with a stranger. You must be just as careful on the Internet.

On the Internet, you should never reveal personal information like your age or where you live to people you do not know. Because you can't see them over the Internet, people can pretend to be someone they are not. The person who says she is a 12-year-old girl could even be a 50-year-old man!

People who use the Internet to pretend to be someone they are not may be arrested and charged as an Internet predator.

You should never agree to meet in person someone you have only met over the Internet. It is important to act responsibly when you are online. In order to be safe, always ask an adult if you have any questions about people you meet online or about different websites.
